I remember walking into my first porn shop just a few weeks after I turned 18, considering myself a pornography connoissuer as most young men believe themselves to be. Of course things were much different back then, before the internet brought the entire adult entertainment industry into the comfort, and privacy of our bedrooms. In those days masturbation material for a teenager was dependent on stumbling upon the personal stashes of older males, such as brothers, uncles, fathers, and grandfathers. As fate would have it, I’d discovered more than my fair share of those porn caches, and had acquired an impressive knowledge of the adult industry. After about an hour of conversation with the manager as I browsed, I walked out of that store with a bag full of new porn, and a new job. Little did I know at the time that I would someday consider that job my career.

Now just about a dozen years later with a handful of stores on my resume, the internet is slowly, and brutally murdering brick, and mortar adult retail. I’ve watched as our stores went from million dollar revenue streams as recently as five years ago to less than $100,000 last year. One by one we closed our stores, let go of employees, and said goodbye to our customers. I wasn’t ready to let go of the title which for so long allowed me to be true to myself, with no filter, although the digital era has officially rendered me obsolete.

I wasn’t ready to move on, and so I’ve been left with little choice but to embrace the internet. What started as a Facebook page to entertain me, and my friends while I was stuck in the store working double shifts quickly grew beyond our social circle. Then it added a Twitter account, and eventually a Tumblr account. Now with a combined 20,000+ followers across the social media platforms, and a team of about a dozen friends involved, the idea of a website has finally become a reality, with the podcast launching not too far behind.
